The Unsinkable Affordable Care Act

Despite the Trump administration’s relentless efforts to raze Obamacare, enrollment in the plan is up 6% with strong indications that 2019 premium increases will be substantially lower than in years past.

Efforts to weaken Obamacare, including advancing short-term health plans (bare-bones coverage that can produce crippling medical bills) and halting billions in payments to insurers for low-income customers have not succeeded in dismantling the law which “has proven to be more resilient than both its opponents and proponents had anticipated,” democratic Sen. Brian Schatz says. Messaging around the plan will likely need to shift for both parties heading into midterm elections.
