US to Nix Its UN Funding for Palestinian Refugees

The Trump administration plans to stop funding a UN program that supports Palestinian refugees and call for up to a 90% reduction in the number of Palestinians classified as refugees.

The Washington Post reports the administration will announce the changes in several weeks as part of the administration’s effort to align US foreign aid with its policies.

The move targets the UN Relief and Works Agency and its spending practices. Policy experts warn the administration’s actions would “worsen an already disastrous humanitarian situation, especially in Gaza, and sharply increase the level of violence,” the Post reports.
