FDA Burns Vaping Industry

Yesterday, the FDA launched its largest coordinated enforcement action ever: A crackdown on some 1,300 retailers—Walgreens, Walmart, and 7-Eleven among them—who allegedly peddle e-cigarettes to minors.

Flavored e-cigarette liquids like mango and “cherry crush” could also be banned if leading brands don’t pledge to reverse the youth-use trend, manufacturers were warned. If enacted, the measures stand to turn to vaping industry upside-down.

E-cigarette use is up 75% among high schoolers this year, compared with 2017, according to the latest preliminary data. The FDA has sent warnings to accused retailers;130 repeat offenders have been slapped with fines up to $11,000.
