How To Stop Suicide

Suicide eclipses even armed conflict as the deadliest form of violence across the globe, resulting in around 1 million deaths every year, UN officials noted today, marking World Suicide Prevention Day.

While an average of 3,000 people take their own lives each day, today WHO is highlighting “one single fact:” that suicide is preventable. The agency has released a toolkit to help communities stem the scourge of suicide, which plagues all corners of the globe—but LMICs most of all, which accounted for about 4 in 5 suicides in 2016, UN News reported.

The solution is multi-sectoral team work, the toolkit explains, spanning the health, education, labor, agriculture, and the media.
