Appeal for Adaptation

Warning that the world is failing to protect people from climate-fueled disasters, a coalition of global leaders launched an effort yesterday to jump-start adaption efforts, the Guardian reported.
Led by Bill Gates, former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva, the Global Commission on Adaptation pulls in 17 nations, including China, India, South Africa, Indonesia, Canada and the UK. The commission will evaluate adaptation approaches and deliver recommendations to the 2019 United Nations climate summit.
The Quote: “We are the last generation that can change the course of climate change, that can mitigate climate change effectively and the first generation that has to live with the consequences,” Georgieva said, according to National Geographic. “It has to be mitigate and adapt at the same time.”
