FDA Seizes JUUL Treasure Trove

1,000 pages of documents were seized from JUUL Labs during a surprise visit from FDA inspectors seeking information about the e-cig giant’s sales and marketing practices. It’s the latest FDA crackdown on the vaping market amid concerns the products are designed to hook kids. 81% of children who ever use tobacco are introduced to it through flavored products.

Initially marketed as a tobacco alternative for adults, the JUUL’s "kid-friendly flavors"—like tutti frutti and chocolate cupcake—are wildly popular in a soaring market of young vapers. On the day of the inspection, CDC data revealed that the company’s sales grew 7X from 2016-2017.
