Prescription Against Gun Violence

In its new position paper on gun violence, the American College of Physicians strengthens and expands its recommendations on policies to prevent and reduce mass shootings and the daily gun-related violence in communities, homes and other public and private places.

New and revised ACP-backed positions include a ban on the purchase and possession of firearms by convicted domestic violence offenders and prohibition of the manufacture and sale of semiautomatic firearms to civilians. The group also calls for gun owners to ensure that their weapons are inaccessible to children, those with dementia or substance use disorders and those at risk of harming themselves.
