Germany is Knee-Deep in Drought

Germany’s widespread drought is causing chaos for the country’s shipping and agricultural industries. This year, some areas saw their warmest-ever summer and lowest-ever rainfall this year, and the country's grain harvest is expected to plummet by over 10 million tons below average.

With almost 90% of country experiencing drought-like conditions this year, waterways have become impossible to navigate, upending normal shipping traffic. Passable waters are packed with more boats carrying lighter loads to avoid running aground, bringing a spike in freight costs that's hitting Germans hard at the gas pump.
