New Cases Hit Between Hotspots

The DRC’s Ebola outbreak has spread to a previously unaffected health zone between 2 outbreak hotspots, raising official counts to 285 cases and 180 deaths.

8 more cases have been confirmed in the last 2 days, one of whom refused to be transferred to an Ebola treatment center. Patients treated in community health centers, which may lack isolation and infection prevention capabilities, pose a higher risk of spreading the virus.

Officials are implementing an “active search strategy” for cases after it was revealed that many traditional medicine facilities aren’t quickly referring suspected cases to specialized treatment centers.
