Father Knows Best

“Son, it’s time to talk about condoms.”

Young men actually want to hear that from their fathers, according to a Pediatrics study based on interviews with 25 fathers and sons in the Bronx.

Helping dads and sons talk about sexual and reproductive health represents a powerful new way to prevent teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, according to Vincent Guilamo-Ramos, director of the Center for Latino Adolescent and Family Health at New York University.

Most of all, the young men wanted frank instruction on how to correctly put on a condom and avoid breakage and slippage.
