Supreme Court Sidesteps Abortion Cases

The US Supreme Court turned down 2 cases that could have given states more agency to roll back Planned Parenthood funding.

By rejecting Gee v. Planned Parenthood of Gulf Coast and Andersen v. Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri, the nation’s highest court maintained lower court rulings that bar states from withholding Planned Parenthood's Medicaid reimbursements. Several states have sought such a ban recently.

The decision prompted speculation that the Supreme Court is avoiding abortion-related cases in the wake of Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s embattled confirmation process. The newly minted justice stood with the majority on this decision.
