Elder Immunizations

Tuberculosis is the globe’s leading cause of infectious disease deaths and China bears a heavy burden—ranking 3rd in total cases.
Most TB vaccine development is geared towards infants or adolescents, but cases in China overwhelmingly affect adults over 65. A London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine study estimates that by 2050 nearly 75% of Chinese cases could strike people 65+. Further, 75% of TB cases may be reactivations, not new infections.
The authors argue for designing vaccine protocols for an aging population in China and prioritizing post-infection vaccines.
