Gaza Is Ground Zero for Superbugs

Gaza has become a central breeding ground for superbugs that are sweeping modern conflict zones, threatening health security worldwide with infections that know no border.

The scourge is beginning to resemble the days before penicillin saved millions from death and disability.

“That’s why the global community, even if it's not interested in the politics of Gaza, should be interested in this,” says Dina Nasser, an infection control nurse who has worked in Gaza.

In Palestine, every superbug on the WHO’s list of top threats has been reported. Superbugs are rife among gunshot victims in Gaza, stalling their recovery and increasing the risk of amputation.
