Taking on the Trifecta

The global scourges of obesity, climate change and malnutrition are intertwined. Tackling them all at once means taking on their shared menace: A global food industry that fights any public health effort that threatens profits, according to a Lancet report.

In the global food paradigm, calorific foods with scant nutritional value are marketed to children while politicians lobby for weak food regulations. Meanwhile, the global food industry is producing about a third of greenhouse gas emissions.

The report that calls for an international treaty similar to the one taking on Big Tobacco that would range from holding food companies accountable for pollution they produce to redesigning food subsidies.
