Yemen's Stolen Aid

Amid relentless conflict that has left Yemen on the brink of famine, food and aid intended for the neediest people have been stolen or lost in logistical disarray.

An AP investigation found that all sides of the conflict have blocked food aid from “going to groups suspected of disloyalty, diverted it to front-line combat units or sold it for profit on the black market.”

Many donations have been stolen by armed units linked to the US-backed Saudi coalition. And for the first time Monday, the UN also directly accused Houthi rebels of diverting aid, threatening to suspend assistance if the looting didn’t cease.

Houthi rebels have rejected the claim, accusing the WFP of sending “rotten food” and accusing the agency of bias toward the Saudi-led coalition, AFP reported.
