Even as HIV infections and new diagnoses are falling in the US, they are increasing among Latino gay and bisexual men under 30.
Black, gay and bisexual men have the highest risk of being infected with HIV, yet the second highest risk group—Latinos—are not benefitting from health interventions. 73% of PrEP users are white, but just 13% are Latino, for example.
“Whatever strategy the Trump administration comes up with, it’s going to have to grapple with who in fact is disproportionately impacted by HIV/AIDS: It’s brown and black, it’s disadvantaged,” said NYU’s Vincent Guilamo-Ramos.
