Dangerous Displacement

The European Union is “trapping refugees in ‘unsustainable, ineffective and dangerous’ conditions, a group of 25 NGOs charged in an open letter to European letters shared by Amnesty International.
 
An EU-Turkey deal signed 3 years ago reduced the number of asylum-seekers en route to various European countries. But “aid groups have repeatedly slammed the deal as inhumane, noting it has left thousands stranded in miserable conditions,” reports Elena Becatoros  the in the AP.
 
Many people are trapped in overcrowded camps in Greek islands like Samos—where around 4,000 people are crammed in a camp designed for 648. “The EU and Greek authorities continue to rob vulnerable people of their dignity and health, seemingly in an effort to deter others from coming,” Emmanuel Goue of Médecins Sans Frontières said in a statement.
