Goodbye, Gottlieb

“Gottlieb has been shockingly good so far. I hope he doesn’t get fired,” worried Stanford’s Keith Humphreys, a Trump critic. Well, Gottlieb didn’t’ get fired, but the FDA commissioner did step down of his own accord Tuesday, Vox reported.

Gottlieb—who took on youth vaping and opioid addiction—was a surprise hit with skeptics concerned with his pharma background, The Washington Post reported.

He also won over Trump, who tweeted his praise: ”…Scott has helped us to lower drug prices, get a record number of generic drugs approved … He and his talents will be greatly missed!”

But the 46-year-old physician was an outlier in the anti-regulatory Trump administration. The former pharma consultant celebrated his agency and used his post to push tough youth vaping regulations and anti-addiction medications.
