MSF Is Not Impressed

The cost of crucial vaccines for disease like Ebola and Zika may become unmanageable due to eroded pricing protections, warned Médecins Sans Frontières in an open letter to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness. CEPI took an “alarming step backwards” by reversing its pledge to keep vaccine prices as low as possible and safeguard pricing transparency, MSF wrote.

CEPI was set up in the wake of the 2014-2016 west Africa Ebola outbreak, which underlined the dire need for access to treatments and vaccines.

For its part, CEPI says replacing the old “rules based approach” had hindered partnerships with the private sector.
