Operation Detect and Treat

Properly administered antiretroviral therapy effectively banishes the risk of transmitting HIV to others, but its power is limited when some 80% of new transmissions are linked to people who don't know they are HIV-positive or aren't getting treatment.

Thus, the CDC’s latest data—released on day 1 of the agency's 2019 National HIV Prevention Conference—highlights the need for more people to learn their status and receive proper care.

To that end, a proposed 10-year federal plan aims to slash new HIV infections by 90%+ in a decade. Step 1: Targeting hotspots, then expanding to all HIV-affected areas across the country.
