A Watered-Down Resolution

At the urging of the White House, Germany nixed language referring to “sexual and reproductive health” in a signature UN resolution taking aim at rape in conflict situations, Foreign Policy reports.

The amended resolution passed Tuesday also edited out a working group to track progress against sexual violence, but is the first to specifically call for more support of children born as the result of rape, The Guardian reports.

Several nations including France, the UK and Belgium were disappointed in the watered-down resolution, which originally called for stronger protections for LGBT people in conflict.

The Quote: “This is your Nuremberg moment,” human rights lawyer Amal Clooney said during the debate. "You owe it to the thousands of women and girls who must watch ISIS members shave off their beards and go back to their normal lives while they the victims never can."
