Diabetes and Displacement—A Deadly Combination

While managing type 1 diabetes—perhaps the most life-threatening NCD—access to insulin is a matter of life and death.

For the hundreds of millions of people living amid humanitarian crisis, the vast majority are being hosted in low-resource settings. This means the odds of accessing consistent treatment are frighteningly low—undermining the basic right to life, according to the signatories of the brand new Boston Declaration.

Born out of a meeting at Harvard University, the declaration’s 3-year action plan aims to address gaps in diabetes care specifically in humanitarian settings.
