Judges, But No Justice

Drugmakers, doctors and regulators have been blamed by many for America’s opioid crisis. But judges are also culpable, a Reuters investigation found.

Numerous judges who have—and are—adjudicating cases against Purdue Pharma have allowed damning evidence against the company to remain sealed, keeping potentially life-saving information out of the public eye.

The Quote: “The trail of hidden evidence running through the opioid crisis is emblematic of a pervasive and deadly secrecy that shrouds product-liability cases in U.S. courts, enabled by judges who routinely allow the makers of those products to keep information pertinent to public health and safety under wraps.”
