Singing Against Stigma

The charitable arm of pharma giant Merck is on a mission to empower infertile women in Africa through uplifting music that discourages blaming women for infertility.
 
The “More Than A Mother” campaign features an all-female choir and Merck-branded clothing—it also touts the company’s infertility treatments.
 
The campaign may smack of thinly veiled advertising, and some of the videos have been criticized as tone-deaf, but there is substance to Merck’s messaging.

Infertility is an under-addressed issue in Africa, but Merck Foundation has trained African fertility specialists and its partnerships aim to provide affordable solutions to infertility, like removing fibroids and treating infections.
