Dire Warming: 2C is Already Here

There's no shortage of reminders about the Earth's fate if warming reaches 2 degrees Celsius.
 
But warming is not spread evenly, and swaths of the globe have already reached that threshold or are close to it, a Washington Post analysis of "2C hotspots."
 
Romania and Mongolia have exceeded 2C. In New Jersey, where ice festivals on frozen Lake Hopatcong are no more, average temperatures there are climbing far faster than much of the US. 
 
Last week the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change offered more dire warnings sure to drive upcoming UN climate talks. Among its recommendations: Reduce meat consumption and free up more land to absorb carbon. But how to turn recommendations into action?
 
While adult leaders lag on climate commitments, a robust youth climate movement may stand the best chance, notes a Nature editorial.
