The Power of One Puff

Just a few puffs of e-cigarette vapor—even with no nicotine, no flavorings—can have a major and immediate adverse effect on vascular systems, according to research published yesterday.

The results come as the CDC investigates over 100 vaping-related lung illnesses in 14 states. By stripping devices down to the vapor, scientists revealed little-understood potential harms behind other e-cig ingredients.

In first-time vapers, puffing on e-cigarettes constricted leg, heart and brain arteries by over 30%. Other activities can trigger similar changes without causing long-term harm—but these findings add to a growing body of research about the true impact of vaping.
