Rethinking Conception for Mixed-Status Couples

South African health officials are recommending that more pilot programs offer AZT and PrEP to mixed status couples—one partner is HIV positive and the other isn’t—who want to have children.
Research over the past several years has shown that with early and consistent use of AZT, the viral load of the HIV positive partner can become undetectable.
“I think one of the challenges for the medical field is just making the language simple enough and accessible enough for people to understand,” says physician Natasha Davies, an HIV specialist in South Africa.
