It’s not a surprise, but it’s worth calling out governments for failing to invest in water and sanitation systems. After all, 2.2 billion people lack “safely managed” water.
The WHO makes an urgent call for funding in a new report released during a World Water Week conference in Stockholm.
Data from 115 countries and territories show:
- Fewer than 15% of countries said they have enough resources to deliver on their water and sanitation plans.
- Just 12% of countries reported they’re doing surveillance of urban drinking water as often as expected.
- 20 countries reported a average 61% gap between funding and identified needs.
