No-Fear Chemsex Parties
Just as global progress against HIV/AIDS is at a high, European cities are seeing a resurgence from “chemsex” parties.
Chemsex, promoted via apps like Grindr, is sex with multiple partners under the influence of drugs like crystal meth. Chemsex happens mainly among men who have sex with men, furthering concentration of epidemics in marginalized groups.
The kicker: Highly effective antiviral medicines may actually promote riskier behavior like chemsex. “People are not scared anymore of HIV,” says counsellor Ignacio Labayen de Inza. “Many people I see say they think ‘it’s only a matter of time anyway, so I might as well have some fun.”
