The Rohingya’s Untold Tragedy

One of the many horrors inflicted on the Rohingya people by soldiers from Burma (Myanmar) isn’t talked about: Male rape.

Widespread sexual violence against women and girls has been documented in the genocide that drove more than 700,000 Rohingya from the country beginning in August 2017.

However, men and boys who have endured sexual violence have been neglected.

Little to no data on male rapes exist. That's because stigma prevents males from speaking up, and humanitarian organizations in refugee camps don't recognize it as a significant problem though the issue is well known among refugees, writes Verena Hölzl.
