Touch and Go

Hurricane Dorian, one of the strongest storms the Atlantic has seen, left 1,300 people missing and health care facilities operating on a shoestring—if at all.

At Cooper’s Town Community—which is both a local hangout and a sorely needed health resource on on Great Abaco island—staff are contending with ravaged facilities, scores of needy patients, and their own grief after losing loved ones to the storm.

“You go to bed thinking you’re good, and then you wake up at 5 a.m. and you have water coming through the roof. Every day is like that,” explained Brian Wilson of Humanity First’s Disaster Response.
