The Women’s Doom

Venezuela’s women suffer inordinate horrors as conditions further deteriorate in the country.

NGOs report a 50% increase in female homicides in the last year. In Colombia—the closest remaining refuge for fleeing migrants—Venezuelan women are often exploited for sex work. 27 have been murdered just this year, with many cases involving sexual violence.

With hospitals lacking basic meds or disinfectants, pregnant women may face extreme medical neglect. Colombian border hospitals that often see migrants reported an increase in maternal mortality rates by 80% between 2017-2018.

Rates of teen pregnancy and HIV are escalating exponentially, as birth control is scarce.
