Abominable Bill

A Ugandan bill known as “Kill the Gays” that imposes the death penalty for homosexuality is expected to pass in parliament, according to a government minister.

The proposed legislation also criminalizes those involved in advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights under “promotion and recruitment.”

Under current law, punishment includes life imprisonment—strict even compared to other African countries where homosexuality is taboo.

Previously, such proposals have garnered sanctions but this may not impede the bill’s passage.

“We are ready. We don’t like blackmailing … we can’t just bend our heads and bow before people who want to impose a culture which is foreign to us,” says President Yoweri Museveni.
