Gag Rule Drives Gaps in Health Care

After the Trump administration imposed new restrictions on Title X health clinics, 876 such facilities nationwide have lost funding.

As a result, more than 8.7 million women could lose access to reproductive health services and health screeningsNBC News reports.

The regulations prevent providers from referring patients to abortion services, prompting many clinics to exit Title X. But these providers offered vital access to the very birth control and contraceptive services that led to a decrease in abortions in the past few years. 5 states now have no Title X providers; 26 others saw a dip in numbers of Title X clinics.
HHS offered up $33.6 million to remaining grantees to fill the gaps, but an analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that 83% of those funds went to states either minimally or not affected by changes to the program, according to Newsweek
