Seeking Justice in Japan

The town of Reserve, Louisiana has 50X higher cancer risk than the US national average. No household is untouched by the disease, and this Guardian series—Cancer Town—tracks residents’ quest for clean air in “Cancer Alley,” which sits between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
Residents of the predominantly black, working class community traveled to Japan to confront Denka, the chemicals firm they hold responsible for spewing carcinogens into their community.
They were swiftly rebuffed before even entering the premises. “To talk to us would be to admit that we’re human,” said one resident.
