Very Special K

Ketamine has already been deployed to fight depression—now scientists have made a case for it as a treatment for excessive drinking, which is tough to treat with current methods.

Study participants given just one dose of Special K, which can cause hallucinations, significantly scaled back their alcohol intake for months afterwards.

What does this party drug bring to the table? University College London researchers think it can “rewrite” positive memories about alcohol that can make them drink more.

If the method stands up to further testing, researchers hope it can also prove powerful against other memory-related conditions like PTSD.
