The WHO and the African Union inked a historic agreement to deepen their collaboration and advance vital health goals in Geneva today.
The agreement, which follows on the political declaration on universal health coverage approved by member states at the UN in September, emphasizes 3 areas of focus:
- Technical expertise to the African Medicines Agency and creating an enabling environment to foster local production of medicines
- Strengthening WHO-Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cooperation, with a particular focus on emergency preparedness
- Supporting implementation of the Addis Ababa Call to Action on universal health coverage and boosting domestic financing
