George Church, the Gene Matchmaker

The controversial molecular engineer George Church is dreaming up a dating app to match users based on their DNA—and he insists it’s a far cry from eugenics. Rather than being coercive, Church argues, the app would expand users’ options.
The app doesn’t even exist yet, but critics have a lot of questions. For one—would it further enable stigma against chronically ill people or people of certain races?
Church insists the app would only filter out matches that could result in dire hereditary illnesses—which he estimates will make up about 5% of potential matches.
