Good News About Cholera

Global cholera cases plummeted 60% in 2018, according to the WHO’s latest numbers.
The progress is a credit to great strides in endemic countries like Zambia, Bangladesh, and Somalia. Many countries developed national action plans under aglobal roadmap designed in 2017 to beat the disease worldwide.
Deployment of vaccines has been crucial—some 18 million doses were delivered to 11 countries in 2018.
But long-term success against the deadly diarrheal disease means getting to the root of the problem: a lack of access to clean drinking water, proper sanitation, and hygiene, warns WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
