Facebook is looking to fill the gap in preventive care—and promises to reach the poorest Americans who frequently miss out on these checkups.
And unlike physicians, tech companies aren’t subject to the HIPAA law that protects patient information.
The Facebook Preventive Health app will be available to some users this month, sending flu shot reminders and connecting users to suggested services.
And if it pans out the same way as Facebook’s other features, managing health care on Facebook will become as natural as checking in at a favorite restaurant—giving the company yet another foothold on personal data under the guise of convenience, writes Sidney Fussell.
