Attacks on Health Have Become Status Quo

Medical facilities in Syria have been attacked more than 500 times since the WHO began counting in 2016, the health agency announced Wednesday.
Since 2016, 480 medical workers and patients have been killed as Damascus and its allies war with opposition forces. Attacks on health care are now “taken for granted,” says Richard Brennan, WHO’s Regional Emergency Director in the Eastern Mediterranean.
This report marks WHO’s first comprehensive report on medical strikes. Now formalized under WHO’s Surveillance System for Attacks, the new data could play a key role in investigating such attacks and possible war crimes.
