Crushed Hopes, New Hope

When the $100 million clinical trial of the promising HVTN 702 vaccine against HIV was deemed a failure in January, the HIV community was crushed.

But it wasn’t the only hope on the horizon. The HIV Vaccine Trials Network has 2 other slightly different vaccines in trials.

And the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative’s Mark Feinberg has hopes for another project from the network: AMP (antibody mediated prevention). Instead of a traditional vaccine that provokes the production of antibodies, AMP delivers antibodies directly into trial participants via IV infusions.

Initial results from participants in 11 countries will be released later this year.
