“This is Not a Drill”

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus had a stark wake-up call to countries giving up or not stepping up to mobilize against COVID-19,  EuroNews reports.

“This is not a drill, this is not a time to give up, this is not a time for excuses, this is a time for pulling out all the stops,” he said.

He called for a whole-government approach, warning governments not to rely on their health ministries, according to CIDRAP.

And, as cases of the virus creep close to 100,000 globally and governments struggle to respond, UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet has warned that efforts to fight the virus will hurt the poor the most, warning the worst-off in society may “all too easily be pushed over the edge.”
