The $40 gadget from Japanese startup Donut Robotics fits over standard face masks and connects to an app that can transmit the user’s voice into messages, calls, and translations.
It’s an innovation of survival as company tried to find ways to stay afloat amid the pandemic.
The prototype came about by marrying translation software developed for the startup’s robot with a 4-year-old mask designed to interpret speech by mapping face muscles.
