Matters of the Heart

COVID-19 can wreak havoc on the heart, even for patients who weren’t ill enough to require hospitalization, according to 2 new studies from Germany.
One study found that relatively young, healthy patients were more likely to present with troubling cardiac signs 2+ months after recovering, compared to a control group.
The second study analyzed autopsies of 39 older patients, and found high levels of the virus in the hearts of 24 of them.
Together, the studies raise a big question about COVID-19: Is this apparent heart damage permanent?
