Blast Blew Up Cancer Treatments

For children fighting cancer at St. George hospital in Beirut, the explosion that ravaged the city last week literally destroyed their treatment regimens, and their home away from home, The New York Times reports.
One young patient’s chemotherapy tubes were left tangled in debris—the experience captured in a harrowing audio recording. Another patient’s father died from his injuries.
4 hospitals were destroyed in the blast. Remaining facilities were overwhelmed with the injured, patients displaced from other hospitals, and a rising number of COVID-19 patients.

The government has left citizens to fend for themselves in the aftermath of the blast. But citizens have risen to the occasion, AP reports, offering free services from apartments to trauma counseling.
