Fossil Fools Miss Pandemic Opportunity
As global greenhouse gas emissions fall amid the pandemic, climate advocates have hoped it would be an opportunity to turn a corner on climate change.
Instead, countries are leaning on fossil fuels to spur economic recovery from the pandemic, according to a CNN investigation:
- Poland is committing $35 million to relieve its coal industry.
- The Canadian providence of Alberta is investing $1.1 billion in a new oil pipeline.
- India is expanding commercial coal mining operations to free “the coal sector from decades of lockdown,” according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
