The HPV Vaccine Really Works

landmark study from Sweden confirms the huge benefits of the HPV vaccine in preventing cervical cancer itself—not just cellular changes that can lead to cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer currently kills over 250,000 women worldwide every year.
In Sweden, the risk of developing cervical cancer plummeted 88% for those vaccinated before age 17; 53% for 17–30-year-olds.
Younger women likely benefit most because they are less likely to be exposed to HPV before being vaccinated.
The study, covering 1.67 million women and girls from 2006-2017, underscores the importance of HPV vaccination at a time of rising hesitancy and massive disruptions to vaccination schedules amid COVID-19.
