History in the Making… of a Coronavirus Newsletter
On April 5, former BuzzFeed journalist Patrice Peck sent out the first installment of her brand new newsletter, Coronavirus News for Black Folks.
This project has meant constantly sifting through the news that reveals myriad reasons that Black people suffer disproportionately in this pandemic—from comorbidities, to frontline jobs, and deep-seated distrust of the medical establishment.
Tracking the pandemic’s toll on the Black community sparked her curiosity about her predecessors—including the founder of a newsletter that lay bare the unspeakable wrongs of the Tuskegee syphilis study.
