All Eyes on the Origin Story

China has blocked a WHO team from entering the country to investigate the origins of the pandemic, triggering a rare rebuke from WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, CNN reports.
WHO staffers say they hope this is a temporary bureaucratic hurdle in the jointly agreed arrangement.
More on COVID-19’s Origin: This week’s buzzy New York magazine cover storytheorizes that the pandemic was born of a laboratory mishap in Wuhan. Nicholson Baker argues that the notion of human error has become taboo in an “ideological sharknado.”
In impassioned Twitter threads, some prominent scientists have slammed the article for “wild speculation,” flawed scientific arguments, and self-promotion.
Carl Bergstrom insists most scientists have all along been “pretty transparent that we can’t be certain in either direction” where the virus came from.
The big question, as GHN noted yesterday: If and when the WHO probe begins, will China allow investigators to explore all theories?
